INIS - Intermodal Node Information System
The attractiveness of and demand for rail freight services in Brandenburg are increasing. This was the reason for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIR) to develop in cooperation with IPG mbH an internet portal enabling a search for transhipment points in Brandenburg. The internet based intermodal node information system offers users in economy, politics and administration a comprehensive overview of the access to the railway system via transhipment points.
Important goals of the system are:
- Strengthening of rail freight traffic,
- Presentation of access points to the railway system and
- Provision of detailed information for the individual transhipment points.
Via the search form users have now the possibility to find:
- the main operating company for each operational transhipment point,
- information about the five public terminals for intermodal transport,
- additional information regarding the side operators,
- information on non-operational transhipment points.
To identify chances, potentials but also shortcomings of the rail freight transport in Brandenburg the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development authorised two studies. The most important results of these studies are shown in the presentations (but only in German, sorry):
